EMILY'S HOPE.
"Couldn't put the book down. By the end of the story, I felt I really knew these people. This book is a must-read for anyone and everyone who has ever
questioned whether living the NFP lifestyle is 'worth it,' ever been resentful of the deprivations of
NFP, or ever found himself saying
'this is NOT what I signed up for.' Your novel will provide a tremendous attitude-adjustment for everyone who has ever struggled to live a holy and Catholic matrimony.
The big thing I took away: reinforcement/reminder that THE GRASS ISN'T GREENER ANYWHERE ELSE. I'm sure if we got 10
NFP-using couples together, we'd hear ten completely different ways that living the Church's teaching faithfully has made their life a living hell at times --- and yet, through it all (and probably because of it all), happier than they ever could've imagined themselves. Thanks again for such a wonderful book!"
Dr. Christopher Blunt,
President, Overbrook Research
"Your book is truly amazing in its explanation and example of marital love, faithfulness, and
openness to life! The differences of faith and acts of the two main character women, Katherine and Emily, was well-portrayed. The continuing contrast of their lives, innermost thoughts, wills, decisions . . .
showed the difference between truly following and living the life-giving teachings of the Church and being enslaved to one's own selfish, self-seeking, and self-gratifying desires, one of which brings you continually higher and the other which drags you down into the dust. Thank you for taking the time to write such a beautiful story."
Sophia Neppel
"I thought it was a FANTASTIC book on explaining NFP in the face
of rampant birth control use in our society. I LOVED the fresh perspective
of flashing back to Katharine who was sort of a soul mate for Emily even
though an antithesis. I especially LOVED how you used Katharine to
bring to light the history of societal use of birth control and why it was
so important to some."
Rosemarie Colon,

"This is a story that challenges what society tells us is normal about
sex and relationships. Ellen Gable has successfully woven together two
women's lives that impact each other through time and space."
Kathy Cassanto,
Mother of Five, CCL Teaching Couple
with husband Mark
"Wow! I just finished reading Emily's Hope. Congratulations on a great
book. It is a powerful witness to the richness of the marriage sacrament which can be had when we open our lives to God's plan for marriage.
May it bring many more to an understanding of the Catholic Church's teachings on marriage."
Joyce Reilander,
Mother of five, NFP teacher
"As a grandmother and a former member of a prayer group healing team, I have many reasons to recommend Emilys Hope. It is the kind of a book that I would want my teenaged grandchildren to read because of the good advice it gives on love and marriage. The advice is given in the context of a story that celebrates family and the various generations contained in a family.
In some ways, we need to regain the sense of connectedness between the generations of our families. The aspect of healing of the family tree in this book and the way we can ask God to heal us of weaknesses that exist in our family tree will be helpful even for those who have never considered this. We forget that there is no time in eternity. Therefore, our family living and dead can be looked on as one unity.
The book opens doors for people of all ages to enter more fully into family life. I hope that readers will go further and use the excellent additional resources given by the author."
Regina Rolph, Braeside ON
An inspiring story written with great insight. A must read for both young and old.
Joan Kelly, President, Braeside Sandpoint CWL
As St. Gabriel said to Our Blessed Mother Nothing is impossible to God, and this book shows how love is stronger than anything. God is Love.
Arthur Joseph, Priest/Writer
"I really enjoyed the novel, and liked how you used Katherine's character as a contrast against Emily's to demonstrate the importance of the respect for all life My favourite character is Jason because he is such a strong, while at the same time, gentle man. For those who will read this book, I am sure it will not leave them untouched by its clear, pro-life message."
Mary, Mother of Seven
"Your book is a significant contribution to the Gospel of Life that is accessible to the ordinary family, Catholic or not. Do not hesitate to pass it on to teenage girls who are bombarded by the secular media today."
Deacon Daniel Dauvin, Killaloe, Ontario
"Ellen Gable has used a compelling personal story to draw a real life picture of the central importance of the sacramental aspect of marriage. Her story of two women -- separated by generations, eras and the choices they make, particularly in the way they choose to love -- draws a stark contrast. Yet, Gable manages to pull the reader into both worlds and then beyond time and space to a place where faith, hope and love crosses the divide and unites these two women in the bonds of Christ's suffering."
Nancy Jahn, Mother of Seven
Freelance Writer; Senior Parliament Hill Staffer
"What a wonderful book! You've blended 2 stories seamlessly using a diary-type set-up. You opened right in the middle of a crisis. You got inside both main characters' heads. You offered concrete instruction for your reader regarding the Catholic Church. The historical piece contained well-researched information. I cried, cheered, and shook my head. It's marvelous."
Victoria Lees, mother of five, New Jersey
"A thought-provoking and inspiring account about the innocence of youth and the wisdom of adulthood through which is cleverly weaved the teachings of the Catholic Church. A "must read" for anyone who has ever had questions/doubts about the sanctity of human life. A truly enjoyable and heartwarming story!"
Shirley Riopelle Ouellet

"I finished the book last week. I loved it. You did a marvelous job of introducing the reasons why abortion and contraception became so popular without getting preachy. You let the story illustrate what's wrong with them. The end...was unexpected and simply beautiful!"
Tom Strunck, father of six
"An engaging love story but also the story of a young woman's quest for truth, a quest that takes her on a journey to the past, prompts her to re-examine the present, and urges her to strive towards the future with hope and longing."
PM Dupuis
Editor and Mother of Nine
"Ellen Gable's first novel is a triumph, a touching and inspiring story of a young woman's journey through life, sharing in her happiness and heartbreak. Emily's Hope truly gives hope to us all."
Sarah Loten, aged 29
"Wow! I read the whole book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed reading all about these two women's lives. They were such a contrast to each other and it was wonderful how both lives ended up coming together in the end. As a NFP user also, this book has given me renewed courage to face the rest of the world and all of its criticisms of what marriage is suppose to be. I will be recommending this book to anyone who wants to know more about a wonderful way to live."
Sue Schieman, Catholic mother of three
"Illuminating!
I remember having a hard time putting this book down once I had started reading it! This is a very illuminating and captivating story about a girl`s struggle to find faith as well as her emerging relationship with God. In my opinion, this would be a good book for young people to read because it makes us think about what we truly value in life. It makes us realize that even though there is a lot of exterior pressure wanting us to turn away from religion, there is no need to worry about what others think if we have total trust in our faith and in God. This story also makes us believe in the power of love and helps us see that faith helps us get through any struggle. As a young person myself, I look forward to reading Ellen Gable`s further novels."
Kelly Galbraith (Gatineau, QC)
"I read your book in a day and a half. It is a very good book. I liked how you brought the past and the present
together. I think that this would be a very good book for teenagers."
Cheryl May, Step-mom of two teenaged boys
"I loved it tremendously! There were many parts that made me tear or had me sniffling into a tissue, either because it was beautiful or it was sad. Your story has great depth and value and is not a book with a fun message. Your book is a vehicle for the whole truth behind the Theology of the Body, presented so that people can see how the teachings of the Church are to be followed. This is really the stuff that good books of lasting value are made of. May your book sell many, many copies!"
Joan Hon
author, "A Trip to Medugorje", "Star Sapphire"
"This book is such an encouraging change from everything that is presented to the youth in today's society. I couldn't put it down."
Laura, College Student
"Thank you for writing Emily's Hope. What a sweet way to explain the Church's teachings on family planning and pro-life issues. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you also for all the years you have given of yourselves to others by teaching NFP. May the Lord bless you abundantly."
Giselle Alderson, Burlington KY
So good, so powerful, so awesome! This is such a good book. I couldnt put it
down!
Sarah, aged 18, College Student
"The way this book was written to correlate the lives of two very different women is unique. The women, so totally opposite in nature, from very different eras, are fascinating."
Jerrie,
Entrepreneur & Mother of Three
This beautiful story of conversion shows how God places people in our lives to be instruments of His grace. Openness to this grace can transform us and give us hope, even through suffering. Well done!
Laurie, aged 23, Administrative Assistant
"It's a lovely and heartwarming story of a woman's growth in faith. I really enjoyed it."
Michelle Sinasac, Mother of Four
"I really enjoyed this novel. I love historical fiction and I really liked the way you chronicled the lives of Emily and her great-grandmother Katherine. I think you have a knack for remembering the strong feelings and struggles of teenagers - and I think todays teens would be interested in Emilys Hope and not feel they were being preached at. Emilys Hope encourages discussion as it presents a strong case for following Church teaching. As a mother of three young boys I really was touched by Emilys journey to embracing NFP and her experiences of losing babies through miscarriage and pre-term birth. I think that Emilys Hope not only has a place in high schools but also at marriage preparation courses as a launching point for engaged couples to discuss marriage issues such as losing a baby. I really enjoyed reading Emilys Hope - I truly didnt want to put it down until I was done. Your characters are human and their stories very compelling. Thank you for writing a story that is so inspirational and realistic."
Karen Corr
Writer & Mother of Three, British Columbia
An inspiring and eye-opening novel. I really loved it!
Jessica, aged 17, Student/Retail Clerk
This is a thought-provoking novel that I very much enjoyed reading. I especially liked the authors clever technique of switching back and forth between present events in Emilys life and her great-grandmothers experiences many years prior. It was very effective in holding my attention and nudging me to read on. I believe that young adults reading this story will identify with Emilys struggles to sort through
'respect life' issues, pursue their convictions and make responsible choices.
PG, Secretary
I thoroughly enjoyed the book! I actually cried at some points. It was very touching and real. Great book!
Linda, Registered Nurse/Homemaker
I just finished your novel and I thought that it was really good! I think that young people my age can really relate to the thoughts and feelings of Emily! Thank you!
Alison, aged 20, College Student
I would highly recommend this book. I think todays teenagers would benefit
immensely from reading Emilys Hope. Teenagers are definitely searching for answers!
Mary Lou, Homemaker
"Thoroughly enjoyed reading Emily's Hope. Aside from being a good read it clearly demonstrates how being obedient to God's commands about sexual morality make for a strong healthy relationship in marriage. By setting aside the pressure of should we or shouldn't we, a couple is able to focus on growing in their knowledge of one another and to understand the extent of the commitment one makes in entering into a godly
marriage. I appreciated that there was a lot of information about NFP given within the story and that resources were provided for further inquiry. You have done a good work for the Lord."
Liz Loten, 41 yrs married, 3 children
